Testosterone booster manufacturers throw so many ingredients at us claiming that they are ‘proven’ to raise testosterone. A few of them may work. However, many do not (even if they say they’re proven!).
One of the most interesting, or interesting sounding ingredients that claims to boost testosterone that I’ve come across is oyster extract.
In this post, I’m going to give you the facts to answer: Does oyster extract boost testosterone? (aka: does it actually work??)
Here’s what you’ll learn…
- What is oyster extract?
- Benefits of taking oyster extract
- Are there any side effects to oyster extract?
- Does oyster extract really boost testosterone?
- The best way to take oyster extract
- Why oyster extract alone may not be enough
What Is Oyster Extract?
If you assume that oyster extract is made from oysters, you’re right. But let’s go a bit deeper. Here’s how oyster extract works…
Oyster extract contains the micro-nutrients from oysters. So you get the benefits without having to eat a ton of raw oysters (good news if you don’t like oysters!).
But what are these micro-nutrients, and why are they important?
Here’s the micronutrients oysters contain:
- Zinc (in fact, oysters are loaded with zinc)
- Vitamin B12
- Vitamin D
- Omega-3 fatty acids
By taking oyster extract, you’re getting all of these nutrients (again, without eating a plate full of raw oysters).
Heck, a dose of oyster extract each day could possibly replace many supplements that you’re currently taking (we all want to reduce our monthly supplement bill!).
Benefits Of Taking Oyster Extract
The list of micronutrients above does an awesome job of helping you maintain a healthy immune system. HealthyEating.com adds that these micronutrients protect your body against the impact of free radicals and minimize inflammation.
That’s great news, but there’s more (and yes, I’m getting to the t-boosting part!)…
Here are all the benefits of taking oyster extract each day:
- Keeps your immune system functioning properly and healthy by producing more white blood cells
- Protects your body from the negative impact of free radicals (the selenium is greatly responsible for this)
- Loaded with antioxidants, helping fight off diseases and tissue damage (could also relate to recovery from those intense workouts)
- The omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation (can also help with workout recovery and new muscle growth)
- Increases libido and desire (it’s time to get aroused!)
- High amounts of zinc help to increases the natural production of testosterone (we’ll get deeper into this!)
You can see that the high amounts of zinc play a key role is oyster extract boosting testosterone. In fact, zinc is one of the best ways to increase testosterone if you’re going the natural route.
Now you may ask yourself:
‘Why do I need to take oyster extract? Can’t I just take more zinc to boost testosterone?‘
Why Oyster Extract Better Than Taking Zinc Alone
You could. But first, consider that oysters are actually the highest amount of natural of zinc over any other food, and is also a natural source of zinc, per MarineHealthFoods.com. Next in line is eating beef, but raw oysters contain ten times that amount.
Oyster extract also contains the 59 trace elements our body needs to function properly. And it’s also more bioavailable than zinc supplements.
And then you have the long list of benefits of taking oyster extract that I just covered. So oyster extract wins by a long shot.
Are There Any Side Effects To Oyster Extract?
The real question is can you get too much of a good thing. We know how crucial these micronutrients are to our bodies, muscles, and testosterone. But can you overdo it?
Too much zinc from a synthetic source could cause issues like stomach pains or flu symptoms (this could be the case overdosing micronutrients from any synthetic source).
However, because the source of zinc from oyster extract is natural, there are no known side effects. This doesn’t mean you should overdo it (it would be just a waste of your money). More is not always better.
Here are the two known side-effects to taking oyster extract:
- Those with seafood allergies should probably stay away
- Oysters are an Aphrodisiac…in short, they can ‘rock your hormones’ as Dr. Sara Gottfried points out in an article on SaraGottfreidMD.com.
On that note, just follow the label.
I’m actually going to share my preferred oyster extract supplement at the bottom of this post.
Does Oyster Extract Really Boost Testosterone?
Yes, taking oyster extract can indeed boost your testosterone, naturally. Realistically, it’s one of the purest ways to raise testosterone.
There’s an abundance of research on zinc alone proving that it increases testosterone. BroScience.com backs up how the combination of oyster extract and vitamin D pack an even more powerful punch to boosting the test.
Now, if you consider the other benefits of taking oyster extract, you can see how they all work together to support overall health. What does this have to do with boosting testosterone?
Everything! Think about it. What’s the primary reason you want to increase your testosterone levels?
More lean muscle (otherwise you wouldn’t have read this far!).
If you’re getting killer workouts through increased testosterone, and let’s say your libido is up too, all that comes to a screeching halt if you get sick.
In that case, it makes sense to make sure you have a strong immune system. Oyster extract has you covered.
**Disclaimer: I’m not saying you will never get sick while taking oyster extract but you certainly decrease the risk with a healthy immune system.
Also, we talked about numerous other benefits to taking oyster extract, like reducing inflammation and recovery. All of those coincide with boosting testosterone with oyster extract.
The Best Way To Take Oyster Extract
By now you may be ready to go out and buy the first oyster extract supplement you see. Trust, when I first did the research, I did too.
However, let’s back up and talk about the best way to take the oyster extract. There are 4 options…
- Eat a butt-load of raw oysters (I will personally opt out of this one!)
- Powder form
- Combined with other ingredients (such as a testosterone booster)
Option 1, count me out! Options 2 and 3 are taking pure oyster extract on its own, which are far more feasible.
However, I’ve found it to be far more effective to combine oyster extract with other ingredients. In fact, there are 7 testosterone boosting ingredients I recommend combining. I’ll tell you why below…
Why combine oyster extract with other ingredients?
If your goal is to just increase libido and get the healthy benefits (healthy immune system, reduced inflammation, etc.), then oyster extract alone should do the trick.
But that’s not why you’re here. You wanted to know does oyster extract boost testosterone because you want to build more lean muscle, burn fat, or get stronger (or all of those!).
That being the case, you need the support of other nutrients to maximize those effects. You already know that muscle gains don’t come easy. It takes work and effort…more than most people are willing to give.
What Works Best With Oyster Extract
There are two other ingredients that compliment oyster extract, working together to give you the best test boosting results.
- D-Aspartic Acid (DAA)
Imagine if you could just tell your body ‘Hey, produce more testosterone!’
D-aspartic acid does just that. It works with your brain receptors and basically tells your body to produce more testosterone. MassiveJoes.com gives you more insight on DAA and its effects on testosterone levels.
ZMA is a combination of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6. This formula (specific ratios) was originally founded by Victor Conte to help bodybuilders gain more muscle provide better recovery by supporting healthy hormone levels. There’s a short video about ZMA by Victor here.
You can already see how powerful this can be, combining these ingredients with oyster extract.
Testosterone Booster With Oyster Extract
There are actually a few testosterone boosters out there that include oyster extract. But not all of them are equal. In fact, with most of them, you’d be better off going with just pure oyster extract powder or capsules.
Why? There are usually three reasons for ineffective supplements:
- They’re underdosed
- The ingredients aren’t from pure sources
- The label is just a blatant lie (these supplements usually don’t stay around long)
I have a product (well, it’s technically not mine!) that I’ve taken for several years (since about 2012) that combines oyster extract, DAA, and zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6.

So, does oyster extract increase testosterone? Yes, but you’ll get better results when combining it with other ingredients.
I hope this article helped you and have you now have more knowledge of oyster extract. Now, go to the gym and workout hard because testosterone boosters are a complete waste without that!
